22 years in business, what’s the secret?
In our case, it’s to have a great service
This seems obvious, but it’s worth repeating that to stay in business for 22 years, you must have a great product or service that people want or need. It’s not enough to be “good” — you need to be the best. From the very first time we helped a professional make the next move in their career, we have made it our mission to be a trusted partner to not only our clients but the people we support in finding work.
Innovate
In order to stay relevant and keep people coming back, you need to innovate and evolve your product or service constantly. What worked 22 years ago might not work today, so it’s important to always think about what’s next. That’s exactly what we have been doing, working with forward-thinking, progressive individuals in our client base and our own team too. We were one of the first ‘agencies’ to place ‘adding value’ at the forefront of all our activities. Facilitating the HR community in networking and providing important employment law updates through our partnership with Eversheds Sutherland LLP, not to mention our much-anticipated Salary and Benefits Guides.
Build a strong team
A business is only as strong as its team, so it’s important to surround yourself with talented, passionate people who believe in your vision. Yes, over the course of 22 years, people have come and gone, it’s the way of the world, but we pride ourselves on ensuring our teams are provided with the tools, resources, training and support they need to succeed. We also believe in having much fun too!
Be frugal
It’s important to be mindful of your spending and make sure you’re not wasting money on things that don’t add value to your business. Not that we are tight! We do business case and research any large spend. It’s just common sense!
Stay focused
There will always be distractions and temptations, but it’s important to stay focused on your goals and what’s important to you and your business. Of course, our vision has evolved over the years, but our focus has stayed the same. We are specialists in HR & Finance, we are not a generalist recruitment firm, and we know our sectors which makes us well-placed to partner with businesses and share our expertise.
Be persistent
Quitting is never an option — even when things are tough, you need to push through and find a way to succeed. During the 2008/2009 recession, the recruitment industry was hit hard, and many small boutique agencies did, unfortunately, go under. We dug our heels in and managed to pull through the other side without making any redundancies. We remained persistent and were fortunate to have already built up a very loyal client base.
Being in business for this long has required that we have an ever-evolving approach. We tweak and review our services continually to ensure our clients receive the best quality service each time. There is no magical formula or hidden “secret” to staying in business for 22 years. It requires hard work and dedication, something that we take pride in achieving every day.
We are immensely proud that not only do we consistently offer outstanding service, but we are contributing to the betterment of people’s lives. Going forward, our vision is to continue building relationships with professionals, further increasing our reach and impact.
